This update will help resolve some of the login bugs that users have been experiencing. There has been extensive work as of late to fix some of the bugs within opensim and add new features. 08/11/2008 01:00 AM Update Complete Over night we have completed updated the grid. This update will add scripting abilities, performance, and some added estate functions. This week we will periodicaly be working in all the servers as we will be working on the currency system. There will be periods of downtime that will affect different regions various times this eveing and into the night. 08/05/2008 08:36 PM Welcome Fantasy World Estates 08/04/2008 12:07 PM Central Grid to Bring Inworld Currency Central Grid has moved to become the first grid using the OpenSim platform to bring inworld currency to it's users. They will be called Cyber Coins with C$ being it's active symblol. OpenSim Grid's have all been fairly equal untill now. There has been no true way to establish an economy. This will now be possible in CG. Currency has been active in a private test grid for some time now to ensure that it functions properly and is secure. There also has been extensive work to create an exchange sytem on the website for users to be able to purchse, trade to other avatars, and sell Cyber Coins. CG will be selling C$ at the rate of C$200 to $1.00 USD. We will be working this week to add it to Central Gird. CG currently has 2228 user accounts with 2596 avatars and 348 regions. The current monthly tier fee for regions is $75.00 USD. This rate will be changing to $100.00 USD once the Cyber Coins become active. All regions that are currently online or that are activated before the Cyber Coins go live will lock in their monthly tier rate at the $75.00. We have also recently added several more servers to allow for the expected rapid increase of regions. Come join in the excitement as Central Grid pushes beyond the limits of OpenSim. 07/31/2008 07:36 AM GRID UPDATE Over night we implemented a grid wide update to the latest version of OpenSim. With this update region owners gain estate settings priveledges over individual regions. Previously these settings were for all regions on a server. This problem has been increasing since that last update we performed. We will be updating once again tonight. This will be both an attempt to resolve this issue and to add a few minor new features. 06/28/2008 03:18 PM GRID ONLINE 06/28/2008 02:21 PM GRID RESTARTING We found some communication errors withthe grid server, and had to restart the complete grid. Expected downtime 45 min. 06/27/2008 04:00 PM Difficulties with backup automation We had some problems with with regions handling some prim. We tried to create a system to fix an issue with builds failing after server restarts. When this happens we have to revert to the last backups that we had for the regions affected. The only process we had for creating backups was manual. With over 300 regions online this process was impossible to make backups of all regions on a daily basis. We moved to create a system to make these backups automated. It was first tested on a couple servers. There were no issues in this test. Then we moved to implement it for the entire grid. Again we experienced no problems. The success of this project lead us to attempt the same process for saving terrain. Once we found a format that made this possible we again moved to implement it on the entire grid. The first run through worked well. We restarted all the servers again and there were errors that caused the servers to stop communicating. We restarted them all again and had the same result. To get the grid back online we have pulled out the automation of backups. We will again go into test mode to attempt to bring the automation of prim backups back online without adding the terrain backups. This originally was stable until we included the terrain backups. As we work to make Central Grid more functionable and stable we from time to time experience some bugs like we did today. Thank you for your support. 06/27/2008 07:13 AM GRID IS ONLINE Update was a success! 06/27/2008 03:19 AM Grid is Offline To implement the automation process for saving backup region terrain and prim files the grid will be offline for a short period this morning. Thank you for your patience while we work to make your experience in Central Grid more enjoyable. 06/27/2008 02:24 AM Automated Region Terrain Saves We have aslo automated the backing up of a region's terrain. We had to change the terrain format, but it will now create a backup of the terrain as well when we complete rolling restarts. Both the prim and terrain backups only complete after a successful restart. This means that if a restart fails we will not get an errored backup file. In the even of an error we can easily revert to the last time we did a restart. Region or parcel owners no longer have to request either form of backup as they are now automated. 06/26/2008 09:07 PM Automated Region Prim Saves We have automated saving region prims to a backup file. Each time a server is restarted it will create a backup of all the prims on a region. We do rolling restarts of servers throughout the day. This means that we will always have a current backup that we can revert regions to should there be an error. 06/20/2008 04:17 PM TERRAFORMING WARNING Terraforming is very unstable. If you are going to terraform folow these guidelines. Do not select the entire region to terraform at once. Do not terrafrom fast. Do not teraform extensively for a long period of time. Extensive terraforming will cause high lag and can cause servers to crash. When you have completed a section that you do not want to loose ask for a backup to be created via Members Feedback on this website. Persistance of terraforming cannot be guaranteed. In the future this will become more stable. We have teraforming open to use, but it is a use at your own risk. 06/20/2008 07:28 AM Grid Is Online! Under the menu option "Your Grid Estates" then select "Estate Server List" then "Server Detail" next tot he server you wish to modify. 06/02/2008 05:30 AM How to Maximize Your Experience in Central Grid. The latest updates that have been implemented in Central Grid have made using the Realxtend viewer very unstable. At this time we recommend that all users use the latest released standard SL viewer. When we find the RealXtend viewer to once again be stable we will let everyone know by posting it on here. Additionally to increase performance you can take the following steps. Before logging in, goto the Preferences of the viewer. This can be found under the Edit tab on the top left of the latest viewer. Click on the Networktab. Now set your Maximum Bandwidth to it's lowest possible setting. From the Web tab select Clear Now to clear your browser cache. Central Grid requires anyone wishing to own an estate to fill out an application. This is to provide a first line of fact checking mostly to assure that our customers have the right product for their needs. We have approved every application for an estate to date. We have invoiced each of these applicants. All but one has paid and received their estate connection. We have reclaimed a few regions for non payment of tier. In every case the owners have been given almost twice the stated grace period to pay their bill. Central Grid uses the opensim software. We do not add to it as developers. This has always been our stated policy. We offer the highest possible function allowable by the opensim program which is updated by www.opensimulator.org. This field trip will give all in attendance a vast outlook on the creation of the new future of virtual worlds. 02/18/2008 02:16 PM 02/15/2008 06:30 PM Technical issues We implemented a massive update to the opensim software on the servers a couple days ago that did not respond well. We have a test grid setup to implement udpates on and to do tests before we bring the updates to the main grid. This last update tested out well but when we updated the main grid we found issues that were not expected. The test grid was setup an independent server. The main grid is mostly on virtual servers. Many of you do not know the difference in independent and virtual servers. Basically a virtual server is and independant server that is broken down into multiple virtual ones by a program we use. The update had issues "talking" between the virtual servers over this program. It took a little time to find where the problem was and then to fix it. Inventory will be gone, but all objects on the ground will remain. We've tried to find a way to keep the inventory but due to the changes in the OpenSim software we will not be able to do so. (Top left) 02/06/2008 09:39 PM Major Update Part 2!!! Due to the massive changes it will take to make this new upgrade it will be happening over the next few days. We will try to make it as painless as possible for everyone. Everything said in original post still holds true. 02/06/2008 10:04 AM Major Update!!! In order to stay compliant with the new features and stability of the grid software there will be a very large scale upgrade. Do to the nature of this upgrade inventory may be lost. This would include objects, textures, and scripts that are in your inventory. We are doing our best to try and make it so that this doesn't happen, but also know that it could happen. All objects that are already present in the grid will remain, ie. objects that are on the ground in the grid. This update will take place later today and may take some time to complete due to the large scale of the upgrade. 02/06/2008 08:26 AM linking, copying - rotates prims If you link prims and or shift copy, some of the prims may rotate to another position. I have found that if you unselect it then and grab the one of the red, green or blue arrows, moving the object in any direction may re-align the prims. 02/05/2008 01:29 PM Maintance Issue The Grid is back up but there will be some more additions and upgrades later when some of the fixes have been corrected. Todays maintance will be focused on some patches, fixes, minor updates, and streamlining the grid systems. Downtime is unknown at this time, just watch for posting when grid is back up. 02/04/2008 04:40 PM Central Grid Sandbox We have now establised a full region on a seperate dedicated server, for the use of a Public Sandbox. Please only use this new region to test your building skills. It is not fair to build on other regions, where the owners have to remove your prims. Central Grid Sandbox is located just NW of the CG Headquarters region. 02/04/2008 09:02 AM SCRIPTING PROCEDURES The current procedure to get a script working in Central Grid is: * Create a new script in inventory. (Inventory -> Create -> New Script) * Write whatever script you want there, or copy the script contents of another script in the pre-existing OpenSim library. * Drag the script over to the contents of an object. * Delete the script from the object to deactivate script. There are still some defects: * Line numbers in error messages may miss by 1 or 2 lines. * Not all commands and events has been implemented. * Scripts that are running can not cross regions. * You can not use loops inside your scripts. Actually you can use loops, but it will block other scripts from executing. Please DO NOT create loop scripts! This will kill the scripts that other people have running or try to get running. If your script executes but does not look like it's working then someone is running a looped script. Any looped scripts that are runn will be deleted so that the other scripts be function. This is a polite warning that if you use a looped script it will be deleted. This system is designed to show all network devices. If they are online, offline and also the services on each port we care to monitor. To view the network monitor, you will need to login to the monitor server, we made a simple auto login via a Iframe on this members website, but internet explorer will not allow this html function work. We suggest using a different browser, or we will try to make avalable another option once we figure one out :)) This system also has the ability to restart a service is it is down for more than a set timeframe. We are still testing this function and some outages may been seen on the grid as we test with this feature.
